2009 Humanitarian Bowl:
Maryland vs Nevada
Humanitarian Bowl is a traditional post-season college football game in the State of Idaho, played every year at the 30,000 seat Bronco Stadium inside the Boise State University campus. Established in 1997, this bowl was officially sanctioned by First Division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
A selected team from the Western Atlantic Conference (WAC) and the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) are regularly matched to play in the Humanitarian Bowl, usually, the seasonís champion of both conferences. But this arrangement would end in 2008 after ACC refuses to renew its commitment to the bowlís management to play in 2009. Talks are going on to engage the Mountain West Conference as the replacement of the ACC.
Requirements set by the bowl, like the obligation to get their own corporate sponsors and a quota required in ticket sales made the $750,000 payout not so attractive to playing teams. This was reported to be the reason by the UCLA team decided not to play in the Humanitarian Bowl when they were invited in 2001.
Briefly, the bowl changed its name to MPC Computers Bowl in 2004. The short-lived sponsorship of MicronPC, a splinter company of the 1992 to 2002 Humanitarian Bowl sponsor Micron Technology, lasted until April 2007. Micron Technology produces the computer memory brand Crucial.
When Roadyís Truck Stop agreed to sponsor the bowl, the old Humanitarian Bowl as was again named Roadyís Humanitarian Bowl. Tickets for the December 30 match between ACC and WAC are on sale. The games will be played at 2:30 pm MST at the Bronco Stadium. ESPN agreed to televise the match. Get your Humanitarian Bowl tickets as early as today to get a good view of the game!
